LITTLE BIT ABOUT JULIA

JULIA McGOWAN (she/her) is an actor and director raised just 20 minutes outside Washington D.C.  Inspired by the flourishing DC theatre scene, she spent her pivotal years wreaking havoc on anyone who would sit through her own self-written, self-produced, one-kid plays.

Upon determining that her cast of American Girl dolls lacked enthusiasm and drive, she fired them and auditioned for Burning Tree Elementary School's 5th grade production of Charlie in the Chocolate Factory. It was here, proudly standing under the florescent cafeteria lights, playing the career-defining role of Oompa Loompa #3, that her love of the theatre took off.

A graduate of the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA School of Dramatic Arts, she received a B.A. Theatre (Acting Emphasis), with an additional minor in screenwriting from the USC School of Dramatic Arts

Since graduating, she has worked bicoastally on a number of projects. Most recent credits include the Denver Premiere of Downstate by Bruce Norris, Shakespeare's Othello in Monterey CA, and Alice in Chaos with Piper Theatre Productions in Brooklyn, NY.

Her passion for theatre and film lies in work that fundamentally embraces human connection, making sense of the world and of each other.  Her approach involves a lot of empathy, a lot of love, and lots of organized chaos.

UPCOMING: Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet" at The Arvada Center, directed by Lynn Collins.
